Software longevity, support commitment, and web-based technology solutions
We recently had cause to celebrate the longevity of some of our early bespoke software development projects. One of our long standing clients asked us to install the bespoke Windows software we originally wrote for them back in 2001 onto their shiny new Windows 10 64-bit desktop machines, and we were happy to oblige.
The 18 year old bespoke software, which was written for the Windows 98/NT operating systems, is relied upon heavily for the production of our clients customer facing documents. On this particular occasion an on-site visit was required to install the software onto the new hardware. The software installation needed some slight tweaking and manual intervention, but we soon had it working without a fuss or fanfare.
This demonstrates our commitment to support our clients for as long as they have a need for our software. Whilst the software development landscape has changed, we remain committed to making changes to these older bespoke software solutions through the virtualization of our historical development environments, even though the hardware for these older development systems has long since been retired.
Bespoke software development is quite different today with many companies taking advantage of cloud based or web-based software solutions, which do not require any software to be installed onto computers or operating systems. The use of modern software development technologies allow you to simply purchase new hardware or roll out your software to new locations with relative ease – all you have to do is start up a web browser and your bespoke software and database can be at your fingertips within moments.
We now write bespoke cloud based software solutions exclusively, which can run either locally on your internal network, or externally on the web, via a web browser. Our windows based development experience is now confined to supporting historical/legacy systems.
